Lydia Leister Farm
Lydia Leister’s farm after the 3-day battle.

After the cannons were silent and the muskets were still, the Armies withdrew from Gettysburg, and the townspeople faced the aftermath of the Gettysburg Battle of 1863.

Tens of thousands of wounded soldiers needed medical care, surgeries and amputations. Farms were devastated, crops confiscated or destroyed, and the town needed to rebuild.

Come hear the long-hidden stories of the townsfolk, as they coped with the losses of the Battle of Gettysburg. Many took wounded soldiers into their homes. Learn about the medical care of the times, and how surgeries and amputations were performed. And how those who did not survive were buried.

Listen to how these strong, resilient people rebuilt, replanted, and eventually thrived in a town that would never be the same.
